Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

My fianc has a court date in March for possession under 20 grams and paraphernalia. H was never arrested or given a ticket. Does he need a lawyer? We cannot afford one so how can we get a court appointed lawyer? Will one already be there in court for him or does he go in front of the judge alone? This is his first offense. What punishment do you think he will receive?

Since he faces up to a year in jail and an additional 1 year license suspension, then I would say yes, he needs a lawyer. When you go to court, just ask for a public defender and the court should appoint one for him. Every court is different so I can't say what punishment he would receive which is something you should discuss with his PD.
