in florida, a friend was arrested for violation of probation. He is broke and could get free representation. should i offer to hire an attorney who is paid in hopes of getting a better outcome or would i be throwing money away that i could use to help his family. his probation was for a year
You should interview several attorneys and go with whomever you're most comfortable with, not the cheapest attorney. How much are you willing to pay for your freedom? Most people will say any cost, so go with who you feel the best about and not worry about money. Not that a public defender can't do a great job. They can and there are many excellent public defenders. Their biggest problem is that your friend would be one of many, many clients with a public defender, whereas a private attorney should have more time to focus on your friend's case.
