A friend of mine was arrested for allegedly setting fire to a Blockbuster store, and is being held without bond. Is there a reason why no bond has been set? Can something be done so they will?
There is no way for me to know why a bond wasn't set. You need to speak to a lawyer locally or to his attorney/public defender.
From your facts I can only speculate that they are charging your friend with Attempted Felony Murder along with arson. The only other reason to put a no bond hold on him is if he also has a violation of probation. If you could supply me with the name and case number I could be able to better inform you as to what is occurring and if getting bond is possible. If he is eligible for a bond, a hearing can be held immediately to deal with that issue. And if he is being held no bond legally, with no probation problems, a different type of hearing, called an Arthur Hearing, can be conducted to get him a bond. If you would like to discuss this matter further, free of course, you can contact my office at 305.284.8000.
