Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

a friend of mine picked me up about a half mile from my house to give me a ride home. before he got there to pick me up he smoked pot in his vehicle, so it smelled really strong. before we made it to my house we got stopped by two undercover cops. they didnt find anything on my person, although i admitted i smoked pot. i was arrested and taken to the substation. they never took me to jail. in fact they gave me a ride home. i was never given a court date or told i was being charged with anything. this happened on 10/24/2015. i just so happened to check my criminal records online through clerk of courts and apparently on 01/29/2016 charges of poss.of cannabis were filed against me and they set a court date for me 03/10/2016. i HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFED ABOUT THIS COURT DATE OR CHARGES AT ALL. I WOULD'VE NEVER EVEN HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT IF I HADNT BEEN LOOKING AT MY OLD COURT RECORDS

The probably mailed a notice to appear to an old address. You can choose not to go to court on 3/10 and the Judge will probably issue a warrant for your failure to appear. If you are ever arrested on the warrant you can argue that you were never given notice and should be released. Or you can skip all of that hassle and just go to court since now you do know about the court date.
