How to Post a Question

The best way to post a question is to provide enough facts for an attorney to make a sensible answer, without 'confessing' any guilt.

Frequently, I am asked to answer ridiculously vauge questions like 'How can I beat a wire tap case?' or 'I have 150 points - what can be done to get out of prison?'

Another type of question that can't be answered is the 'This is what happened, do I have a defense?' question - the answer is always 'maybe' - because we are only hearing one side.

In each case, there are two - or more - sides to the case. An attorney cannot just listen to the defendant and give a definite legal opinion about the odds in your case, defenses you have or what the sentence will be. A lawyer needs facts and information form both the client and the State before making a definitive opinion.

Therefore, when posting to this site, the best questions are questions about procedure, that is, what happens next in a case. You don't want to give so many facts out that you compromise your right to remain silent, and a lawyer can only give you a 'maybe' answer when hearing one side.
