Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was recently charged with 2 felonies and I am a first time offender. I am a good person, and a loving wife and mother, unfortunately I have a serious drug addiction problem and was under the influence when I committed the crime. I just want to know what I may be facing as far as sentencing goes.

More information is necessary to provide you with an accurate answer. Most felonies fall into one of three categories: a 3rd degree felony carries a maximum penalty of five (5) years in prison and a $5,000.00 fine; a 2nd degree felony carries a maximum penalty of fifteen (15) years in prison and a $10,000.00 fine; and a 1st degree felony carries a maximum penalty of thirty (30) years in prison, unless it is a life offense, and a $15,000.00 fine. This, of course, does not include charges that carry minimum mandatory prison sentences or other sentencing enhancements that apply.

All of that being said, maximum penalties are just that, the maximum that a court could impose in a given case, with minimal exceptions. Your likely sentence will be predicated upon the facts & circumstances of your case, the nature of the offenses alleged, your background and what your attorney can do to defend you against the charges.

I strongly suggest you retain an experienced attorney to represent you in your case.
