Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Shoplifting in Florida under a tourist Visa

I was stupid enough to shoplift something from a store and got caught by the camera ($140). I was arrested and right now released with a bail and expecting a court date through the mail. I'm scared to death of what could happen to me right now, I don't know what to expect. I'm here on a tourist visa, but I have the possibility in the future to immigrate legally to the States through my Mother in Law (She is about to become a citizen any day now and will be able to petition us as soon as that happens). I don't have a record, not even a single traffic violation since I got my license 10 years ago (I've been coming and going all these years between my country and the USA).

What do you think could happen to me?, could I be deported?, is my visa going to be canceled?, will I have problems with my future petition for legal residency?, do I need to hire a Lawyer for this?. In your experience, what is the possible outcome for this?. This is by far the worst moment I've had in my life, I have no one that can give me legal advise before I take any decisions. I would really appreciate any help you can provide, I have so many doubts right now, I don't know what to do. I don't even know where to look for representation.

Thanks for your help
