Legal Question in Discrimination Law in Florida

pet adoption, age descrimination?

I volunteer at a non-profit cat shelter in FL. Since cats can easily live for up to 20 years we have to consider an adopter's age. A man recently filed a complaint with the BBB citing age descrimination. We aren't selling a product. The adoption fee is a donation. we feel that it would be negligent of us to adopt a kitten to an elderly man in poor health. He wasn't interested in any of our adults. Do we have a leg to stand on?

I would be very interested in hearing under what law he is challenging your policy. I am not sure I personally agree with your policy, but I doubt that it is illegal. Send me an email at [email protected] if you want to discuss this further.
