Legal Question in Elder Law in Florida

Alcoholic Parents

my in laws are out of control. They are both alcoholics and cannot take care of themselves. My father in law has been in and out of jail several times in the past and my mother in law has been in nursing homes and rehab facilities and out. Once they have been released from these places they go right back to drinking. The abuse starts and the police are called all over again. My husband and his siblings have each taken turns going down and trying to straighten things out to no avail. They have tried to enforce the Bakers Act and other Acts, but find these acts have no real teeth to hold their parents. Isn't there something they can do to have their parents committed? It is not to take control of their lives, but rather to hopefully save their lives. These people truly have no idea what is going on.

Re: Alcoholic Parents

You don't indicate whether you have involved the Florida Dept. of Children and Families. If you haven't and if you do'nt have the resources to hire an attorney and pay for expert witnesses, you may be helped by this agency.
