Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Florida

Filming a scene from a movie

I have had a client ask me if he can have my company film one of his favorite scenes from a movie. We wants to be the 'star' in the scene, replacing the popular actor who played the role. Is it legal if the scenes are not being produced for distribution?

You'll be paid; so you'll need to pay for use of those rights. Let me know if you want assistance getting permission.

Sounds like a Jack Black movie I just saw previews for a couple of weeks ago.

There are a couple of exceptions to the copyright rules, such as satire or educational use, but it doesn't sound like that's what your client wants. Still, if he doesn't intend to charge money for the viewing of the film and he's making the film just for personal use or for fun, I don't see any copyright violation.
