Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I have a almost 16 year old niece who ran from her mother's home after she was beat up by her. She lives in Chicago, and I live in Jacksonville. I wanted to know how could I bring her to live with me legally. Also her father lives in Jacksonville too. My niece wants to come live here, and neither of her parents have ever had any custody hearings or anything.

If the mother consents you should have no problem. Otherwise, you would need for your niece to contact Child Protective Services in Chicago, have them remove her from her current situation, give them your information for arranging guardianship and/or custody. Unless there is an abuse report made she will continue to be in this situation. the law is the correct way but sometimes slow if you don't follow through. YOu have too little info to really advise on: Is the father on the birth certificate? Were they ever married. The father can apply for custody based on what you have said.
