My 8yo niece is living in an unfit and unstable environment in Florida with her mother and my mother. The father has never been involved in the child's life. HRS has been called on them many times over the last 5 or so years. My husband (in the Navy) and I would like to give her a better opportunity at life in Virginia and adopt her before she may get put into foster care. Do we have a chance of saving this child?

YOu have two options. One you could get consent from the mother or you could got or go to court and fight for her. If the DCF takes the child -relative adoption is always a first option for preference.
