Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I have been care-taking for a 14yr old girl. The mother verbally consented to it. The father was passed at the time. Recently the mother has passed away. Currently she is with the state in a foster home. How do i get her pack? Can I fill out short-term guardianship?

The quickest/cheapest is to work woth DCF and request she be placed with you. It will be earier if you are a relative of either parent. The perference of the government is to always place a child with a relative.

Mr. McCall is correct. Also if the child feels comfortable with you - at the age of 14 they can certainly make a statement in court as to preference.
