Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

child abandoment?

I have had my now 6 1/2 month old niece since 4 days before her 3 month birthday. My sister lives in In. we live in Florida. she RARELY calls, has a 4 year old with her, lives off welfare, and has a married lazy boyfriend..NOT THE BABIES FATHER--but signed her b. cert. to keep the father away. How long do I have to wait to get some kind of paper to protect her. I have a parental consent, it also says to have full power, control, & custody, done by a lawyer. she also has changed the babies last name since signing the papers in may....please help!!!

Re: child abandoment?

A private dependency action or a custody suit by extended family would be the likely way to protect your niece based upon your limited inquiry.

I strongly suggest you schedule a consultation with an experienced family law attorney.
