Re: Child Support

I assume you mean the child's mother, right? Or is your mother the custodian?

If you have been paying all of the child's expenses, I am sure you have saved the receipts or can get them so that when you are served with child support papers you can show the hearing officer/judge the evidence of your payments which may be used to off-set the support issue once it has been legally determined.

You would be wise to hire a lawyer to help with this once it is determined where the action will be (where the child resides?)

Either go to the courthouse or look at the court records which may be online for the county in which the mother and child reside. If a suit has been filed, it will be listed there. View the docket sheet if online to see what pleading have been filed, or look at the actual file to see the pleadings at the courthouse. It should be readily apparent. Chances are, if you fathered a child, there has been a child support action filed against you. If you have not paid all of the support which is owed, then there would likely be a judgment for arrearages.
