Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

emancipation

I am trying to help a young man get financial aid for college. His parents divorced when he was very young. He lived with his mother until he was 14. His home life was very unstable so he requested to move in with his father and his father's girlfriend in Florida. This arrangement did not work out and the father kicked him out. He did not wish to return to his mother in Maryland so a family took him in. He is now a senior in high school and is 18. His father has no contact with him and has provided no financial support. His mother has sent a little money from time to time to offset the family's expenses who have been caring for him. Would it help him to become emancipated in terms of receiving financial aid for college? He is an honor student with ambitions of becoming a commercial pilot. He will need considerable financial aid to achieve this goal and will receive virtually no assistance from his parents. The FAFSA people want his parent's financial information but they will not be contributing to his college funds. Please advise. Thank you.

Re: emancipation

If it helps then Yes. But how do you know whether it will benefit him yet?
