Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Hello,

I am a divorced woman for the past 4 years. I kept my home and live with my two kids. As agreed with my ex husband for the sake of our children, However, the house remains under both of our names which we also agreed. Meaning we are both owners of our home. For the past 4 years I have paid for the home taxes and homeowners insurance on my own. Questions is: Isn't my ex husband responsible for paying half of these two expenses which I have been paying for the past 4 years.

Thank you.

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

You will have to look at what was agreed to at the time of your divorce to determine who is responsible for paying for the taxes and homeowners insurance. If the agreement makes no mention of these issues, you will likely have to go back to court to modify the existing agreement. You will then have to show the court why you think the original agreement should be changed and why your ex-husband should be splitting these costs with you.

Best of luck.
