Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Never been married...

I've never been married, and my child's father and I have been broken up for two years. He signed the birth certificate when I gave birth, and we were a family for 3 years after our child was born. I haven't filed for child support out of fear of being ''locked'' into FL, so to speak. If I file for child support, will I most likely be stuck in FL until my child is 18? Am I currently at risk and unaware of that risk?

Re: Never been married...

You can get stuck in Florida unless a court decides that relocation is best for you and the child. If you leave the state and deny the father access to the child you are in violation of the law and could become the subject of a police search. If you leave but he does have access to the child, he has to file a paternity action in Florida if he wants to make you move back here. You should seek advice from a local attorney before you move.
