Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Naming the Child

I'm 5 months pregnant and just

separated from my boyfriend, the

baby's father. Do I have to give my son

his last name or can I give him mine?

What rights does he have to change the

name afterwards?

Re: Naming the Child

You can give the child any last name you want: yours, his, or even a hyphenated combination. The idea is that the two of you will get together, as cooperative coparents, and decide what's best for your child. Even though you are separated, you should try to put your child's best interests first. But, until he files a paternity suit, the decision is entirely yours.
