Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Paternity issue

HI, I have a 10 year old son. When he was 2 I told my ex that he was the father. He told me he wanted a paternity test but wasn't ready to do that yet. 8 yrs have passed and we are now pursuing this test. When the result satisfies his concerns, does he owe me child support for the last 8 yrs?

Re: Paternity issue

If by "ex" you mean "ex-boyfriend," not "ex-husband" (which may change the answer), then probably not, since there was no court order in place for the past eight years ordering him to pay support. You should file for support right away, though, if you are certain he is the father, since support begins to accrue in most cases from the month after the day you file the child support petition.
