Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I have been paying my ex-wife a part of my pension for the last 29 years. She is now in a nursing home and on Medicaid. She lives in NJ and I live in FL. I understand she will not be getting my money, do I have to keep paying it?

Depends. Are you paying her alimony and is she claiming the income? If she is claiming the income, it may disqualify her for Medicaid. You will need to speak with an attorney on these issues as to what her best advantage would be. She may have to relinquish the alimony in order to remain on Medicaid or there may be an alternative as to the income level you are now living at. It could be that you may need to request a reduction in what you are paying in order to maintain a proper living. Too much unknown information.
