Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

please help?

if a spouse lied to another spouse about paying bills and they got really behind on things and that other spouse found out because it was all in their name and they filed for a divorce and custody of the kids can that prevent the other spouse from getting custody of the children? please i would like to find out

Being in debt cannot prevent the other spouse from obtaining custody of the spouse's children. Custody will be awarded to the spouse who shows the best ability to care for the children

Generally not although the court may take that into consideration along with many other factors. The court will look to which parent can give the child(ren) the best loving and caring home and would be in the best interests of the child(ren).
