Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I was told that in Florida signing the birth certificate does not make you the legal father. I want to establish visitation and support payments through the court, and there is no disagreement concerning paternity. Is it really necessary to file a petition for paternity? I thought an acknowledgement of paternity was necessary to be listed as the father if you are un married. Would that not give me the same legal grounds to file for visitation and to establish support?

No it would not. You must file a Petition in the court to get a court order allowing for the visitation and support to take place. You must also file the Florida Putative Father's application/document. See on the internet. What this does is solidify that the child can not be adopted without your permission.
