Legal Question in Medical Leave in Florida

Employer has said that if I take family leave for new baby I will not get maternity pay for the six weeks that are normally covered. I do understand that the total time out cannot exceed 12 weeks. Is it legal to with hold that benefit?

It is my understanding of the Family Medical Leave Act that an employee's use of FMLA leave should not result in the loss of any employment benefit that the employee has earned or was entitled to before using FMLA leave.
