if my boyfriend gave me his dog and now wants her back after a year and a half, do i legally have to give her back?

If you can show the dog was a gift you do not have to give her back.

If it was a gift it is yours. Can you establish that? The time alone wont be sufficient. Is the dog registered anywhere and who is the owner in that registration? Other evidence of dominion and control would be of benefits as well.
