compushare invester services accidently addressed and mailed another persons

dididend checks to me. Not aware that this was in error I cashed and deposited these checks along with my own. This transpired between 2008 and 2011. I have just recieved a notice from them stating that they incorrectly addressed these to me and I owe them $522.83. Am I legally responsible to pay for their mistake.

Yes. You improperly endorsed and cashed checks which were not due to you. You have been unjustly enriched by these payments.

Yes, if this is the case you are responsible. Not for their mistake, but for your acceptance and cashing of checks that did not belong to you. However, I would suggest you ask them for an accounting of what they say were overpayments. Then compare that to your bank statements.
