Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Had a friend who was financially helping me during a point in my life where I was unable to do so. I refused and said I couldn’t take her money because I can’t guarantee I could pay her back. After giving me money, hotel points, rental cars... etc. She wanted something else that I wasn’t willing to give her. I was in another relationship. She wasn’t aware of my other relationship because there was no reason for it. We were “friends” . When she found out about my girlfriend she wants all the money back. She put credit cards in my name. Opened accounts with my name on it. Now she is suing me if I don’t pay her $20,000 of the alleged $31,000 she says I owe. What do I do.

If she is suing you, you should answer the complaint or have your attorney answer the complaint with all applicable affirmative defenses. Do not fail to answer the complaint or you will be in default and thereby admit liability for what, from you side of the story, is a gift. Yes, lawyers cost money but so will a judgment against you for 30k. Find a local lawyer to assist you but act quickly if you've already been served. Best of luck.
