good friend paid off my mortgage

my good friend paid off my mortgage because i helped take care of his sick spouse. well, the other day he said he was going to get a lawyer and sue me for the money he paid.(he was mad about something) This was done of his own will. we never asked him to do this, but he said he wanted to make life easier for us and also for helping with his wife. can he sue you over a gift . no type of papers were ever drawn up. can he do this

You can sue for anything of course. However it will be difficult to for him to prove it was a loan instead of a gift for your services for the sick spouse. I doubt he would be succesful without some type of proof. ie. witnesses, documents, voice recording
