Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Please Mr Postman

A postal carrier asked me if I knew if I knew where a person in the building where I have my business lived. I didn't recognize the name other than the 1st name. The only person with that 1st name had moved out several months previously, which is what I told the carrier. Several weeks later a tenant from upstairs, who's 1st name happened to be the same as the previous tenant, came to inform me that his mail was no longer being delivered due to the fact I had told the carrier that the guy had moved out. The current tenant had never filed any type of change of address and yet he is threatening to sue me because the post office not been delivering his mail. I tried explaining to him where the confusion was but he insists the postmaster told him I am liable.Apparently he had a large sum of money that was to be delivered by certified mail that was returned to the original sender. Is it common practice for mail delivery to be changed or stopped without written notification of a change of address. The post office never tried to contact this guy by phone nor did they put an attempt to deliver slip in his mail box in the building. I think the carrier is just trying to cover his butt by blaming me.

Re: Please Mr Postman

you are correct. The post office cannot stop mail just because a neighbor says to (even if you did).
