Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Sold Boat

Me and my friend sold a boat to someone, The buyer wanted work done to the boat so he gave us a deposit on the boat 7k of the 10k for the Boat. He wanted us to strip the boat inside for him to use as an office. We agreed but told him if we did this he had to buy the boat because we could not resell stripped he agreed. After we finished our part he realized the boat was to big to fit in his lake andasked me to try and resell it or rent it. I was able to finaly resell at a large loss due to being stripped. I gave him my part of the 7k back 3k and my friend that received the balance for the boat from the new buyer told me he gave the old buyer the balance back. The bad part is my friend died the next week and i have know way of proving it and the guy is trying to sue me now for 4k leaving me responsiable for the full 7k I do have a cancelled check from the new buyer that gave my friend the balance of the boat that he supposably gave to the original buyer. Am i left holding the bag for my friend and his wifes part? I am interested in hiring an attorney to help me with this. West Palm Beach Fl. Any help would be great.
