Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

citizenship - immigration

I have applied for N-400 to become U.S. citizen on April, 2007. I took a FBI fingerprinting May, 2007. It's been 19 months since applied for N-400. I talked to USCIS, and was told that USCIS is waiting for FBI to complete the background check. I have been holding Green Card for more than 27 years and I have no record of criminal activities of any kind; I am good! USCIS said all they can do is just wait for FBI to get back to them. Is this normal? This is way beyond the average waiting time, as you are aware. Is there anything I can do to correct this situation? Thank you.

P.S. I want to vote this November!!

Yep, this is as normal as it gets. You do not say whether or not you took the exam -- at this time, the average time is about one year, and you seem to be way over; but then so are hundreds of other applicants. You can file a writ of mandamus if you wish in the federal court -- but I guarantee that as soon as you file, they will have an answer. Get your lawyer to badger them some more. Good luck!
