Legal Question in Immigration Law in Florida

marry now petition later

My bf (who is a permanent resident) and I (on an H1B visa) really want to get married. But we know it could take longer for him to petition me for residency since he's not a US citizen yet. Can we get married now and just have him petition me later after he gets his citizenship? Is that possible and faster?

Re: marry now petition later

You may get married now, have him petition for you, then upgrade your petition once he becomes a U.S. citizen.

The preferred time frame depends upon when he's eligible for naturalization.
