Legal Question in Insurance Law in Florida

Boyfriend has a settlement from auto ins. Help.

My boyfriend was sued by my auto carrier for an incident that occured in Dec/2000. He was involved in an accident (w/ injury) and was not insured on the policy. In 2003 the insurance company went to court and they now have a judgment against him. Basically my question is: How long do we have to worry about this settlement coming back to haunt us? Can the insurance company garnish wages or suspend his license if no payment is made? Would it be possible for him to file for bankruptcy to clear himself from this judgement? At this time he's at a minimum wage job and has no other debts/judgments. I'm just worried that if we decide to marry or that sometime in our future this will come back to bite us. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Lots of Issues there. There was a judgment against your b/f thus its the highway safety motor vehicle drivers license division that would be the entity suspending your license, not the insurance company.

Judgments that are perfected can be last 20 years and wages can be garnished under certain circumstances as well as other methods of collection.

You may be able to work out a payment plan with the insurance company. A bankruptcy attorney would want to know how much the judgment was for to determine your options in that arena.
