car insurance and lilabilty

we want to buy a car for our 161/2 year old daughter.An a stude3nt. what way should we buy and insure car for mom and dad to not be lilable in case of a tragic accident buy car in her name and her carry her own insurance. buy car in our name and carry her on our plan. we want to protect our assets and our liquid money in casre of tragic accident we do not want to be sued and lose our nest egg. we wnatheer to drive but we want to be safe from legal responsiblity..what do we do how do we buiy insure and protect our assets??

Buy in her name. Insure it in her name. But beware that signing for her license assumes responsibility until (I believe) she is 18. If so have only one parent sign. You might also consider owning the car in a corporate name instead of hers as you can count on her letting friends drive despite your admonitions.
