Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Florida

I would like to play a couple songs off of a CD as part of an educational lecture that I will be presenting primarily to elementary aged students. This will be a lecture I plan to repeat over a period of years. I contacted the music publisher company the songs are listed on to request permission to use the songs and was told they could not help me because there is no license available for what I would like to use the songs for. Does this mean that I do not need permission to use the songs since no license exists for that purpose? Also, over the past few months I have sent letters, emails and made phone calls to other enities involved with the songs such as the record company to request permission to use the song and none of them have responded back to me. Most of the lectures I do are in public schools and I do not charge for them or have a sponsor. So, there is no profit involved in this on my behalf. Thanking you in advance. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I do not believe that you can technically do this without permission.
