Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Florida
Renting a patent
Is there a such thing as renting a patent or is that the same as licensing? And can you license to one company for x amount of years and then another company for x amount of years?

Re: Renting a patent
Patent holders have the right to be paid a fair fee for the use of their patent; they don't have the right to stop others from using their patent. And a patent holder can work out whatever deal they can get.

Re: Renting a patent
The proper term is licensing. If you are the patent owner you may license the patent for however long to however many of people you wish. Generally, if someone is going to license it from you they would be willing to pay you more money if yu gave them exclusive rights.
