Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

My employer (I was an I9 commission person) asked me to have lunch with him for the purpose of meeting with a client. While we were out, he had someone in the office wipe my PERSONAL computer of all data. I'm in the TV business and my PC had lots of editing work of commercials that I had produced, shows that I'd hosted, and a digital "resume" cleaned out of all of my work. He terminated me after lunch (the client never showed, obviously) and my editing station, along with personal effects etc, were outside of the office in the hallway upon my return. And he's been speaking ill of me all over this town to company personelle, clients, and people in general. Is that legal? It could affect my future earnings potential (his bad mouthing) and my resume is weakened due to his deletion of my work.

It was improper to destroy your personal property if it was YOUR computer and not the company's.
