FMLA & Short Term Disability

I find that my employees have a really hard time understanding how Short-term Disability & FMLA can run concurrently. Can you recommend an easy way of explaining this? Palin english for the average worker...

Family Medical Leave Act is a Federal law which provides employees with 12 weeks of leave to address medical issues involving themselves and/or family members during a 12 month period. It can be paid or unpaid. Short-term disability are employee benefits provided by the company which can be used by employees to ensure that they continue to be paid during the period in which the FMLA benefits are being used.
