I just got let go from my job they are offering severance but want me to sign a severance contract. There are some things that I don't agree with on the contract. The company has already signed their part. Can I just mark up the parts I don't agree with and sign it and send it back since they already signed it

You would be best off having a lawyer negotiate the terms of the severance agreement for you. If you need more information on your employee legal rights check out our blog www.takethisjobnshoveitblog.com or www.behrenlaw.com.

As with any agreement, the terms of a severance package are negotiable. Having an attorney may help you to negotiate better terms, in most cases. However, you can always discuss the matter with your employer yourself. I would recommend that an attorney look over the papers too, after that, to be sure that you are not doing anything that might hurt your rights under the law.
