Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Hello, I am a college student, and I'm taking a Business Law class. My professor gave us an assignment, and I don't really know what to do. I don't know much about legal issues, and I don't know how to search for my topic on the internet. All I need is some kind of ''keyword'' to search throughout the internet. Here is the issue:

He asked us to discuss the rights of Alan who is working on a ABC store, and John from XYX offers him a better salary. Alan goes to talk to his supervisor about the offer he just got. Alan's supervisor promise him that he will raise his salary at the beggining of the next year. However, ABC Company refuses to give Alan the promised raise.

What are Alan's rights?

How and where can I find information about this?... please give me some kind of hint that I can use for my research.

You can go to "findlaw.com" or a similar site, but I'll give you a hint: Under Florida law, Alan doesn't have many rights!!! (although your professor may or may not be aware of it)

talk about contract, offer, acceptance, promissory estoppel, at-will employment contracts, no duration as to how long the employment contract is for at the increased rate
