Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

I am a part-time worker at a golf course. My employer requires us to buy (from the company) uniform shirts. The company has picked a new shirt design, so we have to buy the new shirts. The first is $7.70 (apparently < cost). If we want a 2nd one, we have to pay about $28. I think this is to discourage us from buying low cost shirts and re-selling them, or just to make money from employees. I don't do that because it is against company policy to use the discount privilege to make money from re-selling. But I want two shirts, so that if I have two days of work in a row, I will have clean shirts ready ahead of time. It seems exorbitant; it's a half day's pay. This fall we will be required to buy expensive (even with a discount) uniform jackets. It seems unfair. I still have the last one I had to buy ($80 at the discount price), and it is in perfectly good condition. I'm sure the new one will cost at least as much. Is it legal for the company to do this?
