Rehire preference from lay off

I have been laid off since Oct. 1, 2006. I just found out about an opening which was not offered to me although I qualified. What are my rights? What can I do now?

Florida is an employment at-will state, meaning you can be fired for any reason at any time (and similarly not hired for any reason) . . . so unless you're a member of a Union, there is no remedy that exists based upon the facts presented.
