Unless you have an employment contract which specifies the time and the conditions for which you can be terminated, an employer can terminate an employee for any reason, at any time, or even for no reason at all. There are, however, exceptions to that rule. For example, an employer cannot terminate an employee, or take any other adverse employment action, for reasons that are discriminatory in nature. An employer also cannot terminate an employee for participating in an employment related investigation, or for demanding that the employer comply with wage and hour regulations.
