Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Bed bugs

We are renting a apartment in Sarasota. They found bed bugs in the apartment, and we had to pack up everything, got it washed and now we not allowed to unpack anything and they have to do the whole thing all over again in a weeks time! Meantime, my stuff (all my clothes) in in the living room in plastic bags! What are my rights?

Re: Bed bugs

Generally speaking, the landlord must pay to let you and your family stay in suitable housing (i.e.-hotel) while they are spraying for bugs and the apartment is uninhabitable. Under the circumstances, I don't think it would be unreasonable to request reimbursement for laundry expenses also. I recommend hiring to a landlord/tenant attorney immediately. Incidentally, I practice landlord/tenant law in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
