Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Recently our apartment complex has inform us that the security deposit refund check we received 6 months ago was an over sight and is demanding we pay them the difference. When we received the check we took it to the leasing office and asked if the amount was correct and was told it was. So 6 months later they find a booking error and are now saying we owe them $1,000. Seems to me like their problem is just that, their problem. No where in out lease does it say we are liable for such errors and I don't see how an over site on their book keeping becomes our problem. Do they have any legal recourse to make us pay them this money?

Did they give you a check for an amount greater than your security deposit? If so, they can ask for it back.

If they are now claiming that they had a right to retain a portion of your security deposit, then no, it's too late for that.
