Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Just signed lease - can I leave w/out breaking it?

I just signed the lease at my apartment complex 2 or 3 weeks ago and I have now found information that leads me to not trust the managemnt of this complex and no longer want to live here - I signed a year lease! Is there a grace period or time limit that tenants have to back out of the lease they signed, move out and try and different apartment complex? Thank you very much!

If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

RESPONSE: Generally the answer is no unless your lease provides the grace period. If you leave without legal cause you may be held liable to your landlord for the duration of the lease. I recommend you visit an attorney prior to breaking any lease. Talk to your landlord and see if they will accept an early termination fee.
