Legal Question in Military Law in Florida

Awol

my brother has been AWOL for 10 days, we have convinced him to let us pick him up where he is at. When we turn him in, is there a set punishment depending on how many days he was AWOL or is there anything we can do to prevent jailtime?

Re: Awol

1. Good! Surrendering is the best solution compared to being arrested/apprehended.

2. Based on the length of the absence it's possible he will be given administrative type punishment compared to a court-martial.

3. Disposition depends on whether there were other charges pending when he went AWOL, his reasons for going AWOL, and whether or not he surrendered or was apprehended.

4. After 30 days, a federal arrest warrant is issued and you can expect visits from the local police or sheriff.
