Legal Question in Personal Injury in Florida

compensation

Is there a 'cap' on awards due to a personal injury lawsuit against a major corporation. A friend of mine has told me that the most that can be awarded by a jury is $250,000.00. My suit involves errors comitted by employees of the corporation that led to my imprisonment in a foreign country for 3 months. The lawsuit has been filed recently and will be heard in federal court (pending date). I reside in FL and the corporation is headquartered out of state with rights to conduct business in FL.

Re: compensation

I hope you have a lawyer because you have some very complicated issues. Florida has no cap on general damages but does cap punitive damages, and the state gets a large percentage. As your case is in Federal District Court federal law will control. Congress has passed some statutes that may affect your recovery. Bottom line is I can't answer without significant research time. Good Luck.
