Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

My mother and uncle received a house once my grandmother passed away in Puerto Rico. My mother would like to give her half to me, her son. My mother and I both reside in Kissimmee, Florida. How can we get this done?

If your mother is on the Deed in Puerto Rico, she may transfer her half interest to you. Note that you will need a Puerto Rican conforming quit claim. And it must be executed in conforming with Puerto Rico law and notarized; a Florida notary should suffice. You can check with the local PR recorders' office for filing fees and taxes. Best to speak with a Puerto Rican attorney or Notario to draft and file the paperwork for you.

Speak to a Puerto Rican attorney. This should not be very expensive, so shop around if you do not find a good price. I am sure there are some PR Attorneys in your area. Note that a notary is not an attorney in Florida. Be careful about getting legal advice from someone who is not actually licensed to practice law or has no law degree. Regards,
