Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Property tax being added to rent

We have been renting a lot in a mobile home community for 10 years. A new company has bought the property and has sent out notices that we will be charged a portion of the property tax. Can they charge you property tax on a mobile home lot that is being rented? We aren't the owners, they are. And if we were the owners we would have homestead exemption and a disabliity exemption.

Re: Property tax being added to rent

Truthfully you have been paying a portion of the property tax all along. Landlords consider the amount when calculating your rent and the respective increases. You are essentially getting a rent increase from the new landlord.

Now, depending on your lease agreement they probably will not be allowed to charge you additional money until renewal.
